SWOTs Analysis
The following is the analysis of Belkin's WeMo home automation system, which is a third wave product. Below I am going to present a SWOT analysis as a rational why this product will excel during the Third Wave.
History/Company Background: Belkin's USA, was founded by CEO, Chet Pipkin, in his parent's garage. Chet's passion was driven by solving customer's needs. Today, Belkin International has three brands - Belkin, Linksys and WeMo - to enhance the technology that connects us to the people, activities and experiences we love. Belkin products are renowned for their simplicity and ease of use, while our Linksys brand helped make wireless connectivity mainstream around the globe. Our newest brand, WeMo, is the leader in delivering customizable smart home experiences. Its product platform empowers people to monitor, measure and manage their electronics, appliances and lighting at home and on-the-go. Belkin's mission since inception in 1983, is to create products that help people realize the power of technology and make people's lives better, easier and more fulfilling.
WeMo represents home automation, with the introduction of easy to use products like smart plugs, smart switches and netcam, that use cloud service to control WeMo products from your browser or smart phone. WeMo also works with IFTTT and Google home connecting your home electronics to a whole different world of online applications.
CONCLUSION: Belkin's international based on its vision statement of,"is to create products that help people realize the power of technology and make people's lives better, easier and more fulfilling." Has developed a third wave product in the name of WeMo. Because of Belkin's global reach and customer acceptance of the Belkin's brand it has become very easy for WeMo products to become a poster child as a third wave product. WeMo has accelerated and facilitated the concept of Home automation systems by developing intelligent home products which can be controlled with the help of your browser or mobile device using cloud services. WeMo products are considered smart and intelligent products which simplify the lifestyles of the users(by doing the regular manual chores automatically, like turning on and off lights, opening and closing blinds, adjusting the thermostat according to your lifestyle...etc.) and help the user make productive use of their time.
